NOTICE OF SECURITY INCIDENT

Van Staden & Booysen Inc. wishes to inform its clients and stakeholders of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to certain of our computer systems and the unlawful acquisition and disclosure of information held by our firm.   In keeping with transparency and the protection of confidential information entrusted to us, we wish to provide an update regarding the incident and the measures undertaken in response.

 

The incident involved a ransomware attack by an unauthorised third party, resulting in the compromise of certain electronic records. The information affected may include personal and transactional information, including names, identity numbers, property descriptions, banking details and related legal and conveyancing documentation.

 

Upon becoming aware of the incident, we took immediate steps to contain the breach, secure our systems and investigate its extent. Independent IT security specialists were engaged to assist with the investigation and recovery process, and additional security measures have been implemented to strengthen our systems against future incidents.  The matter has been and is being brought to the attention of the relevant regulatory and law-enforcement authorities in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

 

As a precautionary measure, we encourage clients to remain vigilant regarding suspicious communications, unauthorised banking activity and requests for personal or financial information. In particular, any communication purporting to amend banking details or payment instructions should be independently verified directly with our offices before any payment is made.

 

We recognise the seriousness of this incident and the importance of the trust placed in our firm. The confidentiality of client information remains a priority, and we are committed to taking all reasonable measures to safeguard such information.   We sincerely regret any concern or inconvenience arising from this incident and appreciate the understanding and continued support of our clients and stakeholders.
